The Child and Family Services position was funded as a .5 FTE starting in September 2023. The Child Development Centre (CDC) has experienced a rapid increase in referrals for 3–5-year-old children with complex behaviours and parental challenges. Although the position is .5 presently CFS is trying to assist children and families without holding a waitlist. Referrals are delt with on a case-by-case base depending on the critical nature of the issue.
Three Circle of Security Parenting (COSP) groups were provided. COSP is based on decades of research about how secure parent-child relationships can be supported and strengthened. Facilitators collaborate with parents and caregivers to help them to: understand their child’s emotional world by learning to read emotional needs, support their child’s ability to successfully manage emotions, enhance the development of their child’s self esteem, honour the innate wisdom and desire for their child to be secure. CFS will be offering a new 6-week parenting program called CALM Connections. I wanted to provide you with a link to the CALM Learning Lab which now houses the 2-part series CALM Connection Seminars which are free. These seminars as a great introduction for parents/caregivers prior to joining the CALM Connection Parent Group.
